SAO PAULO, July 21 (Reuters) - Embraer EMBJ3.SA and Saab SAABb.ST have signed an agreement at the Farnborough Airshow providing a framework for the potential production of 20 additional Gripen fighter jets at the Brazilian planemaker's Gaviao Peixoto plant.
Embraer will take responsibility for assembling the aircraft, complementing Saab's main final assembly line in Sweden , to meet global demand.
Gaviao Peixoto is currently the only Gripen final assembly line outside Sweden .
The companies intend to conclude the corresponding agreement in 2026.
Embraer and Saab already have a deal for 15 of the 36 Gripen fighters purchased by Brazil in 2014 to be assembled in Gaviao Peixoto.
"We are well positioned to support increased production capacity if demand requires it," Embraer Defense CEO Bosco da Costa Junior said.
